SG COSTUME

The Handprints has a SG costume that we encourage all persons to take in once of their additional costume slots, it is encouraged that this is worn as often as possible, especially when gathered together in a SG team in public places such as the Black Market/Wentworths, outside mish and fighting GM’s etc.

  1. As a small note, I’ve found that:

Capes work with this, but work better on female chars. If you have the single shoulder cape option, that works.

Wings seem to be fine too.

To differentiate this between normal cossie and SG mode (so Von knows we’re earning prestige and doesn’t start shouting!) I set it up so the handprint goes to SG colours, and my aura is in one of the SG colours as well.

Unless Von’s changed the colours to gold and green, in which case, cool :)

  3. I’m just sorting it out now, this will most likely sound daft but, the colours in you’re post, aren’t the same has the one in that image are they?

  4. Hi Flaming and yes they are – i think they look slightly different in the ‘flesh’ as it were but Escalus was consulted and the colours that i have posted are the ones to be used which are the colours from the piccie – according to Esacalus anyway :)

    Von

  5. Ok i am really sorry but after seeing Escalus in his cossie i have had to make an ammendment

The Green is 7 down on the far left taking the top row as 1 and then 1 in to the right

    Apologies
    Von

  6. Why are you up so early Von!?

  7. Check out the piccie of ‘A Spiffing good team” now showing on the home page of last nights superteam all wearing the SG costume :)

    Von

  8. Yeah its great. I did mine last night and it looks sweet! Theres 10 – 12 of us Heroes side isn’t there? That’[ll be a cool pic.

  9. Ye we should meet next week for a piccie in Atlas

  10. Can you imagine when they launch the Winter event and all the Handies hit the slopes in costume? It’ll be like a biker gang taking over Pocket D hehe…

  11. I was a bit doubtful about the costume at first, but once we were all wearing them, we looked pretty cool.

  12. I like it… ordered mine for Christmas.

    (The Dirty Big Grasshoppers.)

  13. I’ve got some nice shots of the sg in their cossies on the newly updated gallery on my Picasa site

  14. Just wanna apologise for a couple of costume-related things. Firstly, I misunderstood the whole competition. I think it was SG colours, not actual costumes. If I had known it was costumes, I would have sent an entry (yes and lost probably but still would have participated more).

Secondly, part of my fun in CoV is a mild role-playing element. I don’t go around saying everything in character or what have you, but I put a lot of effort into the concept and background of my toons and I “being” that toon. That means it kinda spoils my fun to wear a generic costume that has no role playing side to it, so any of my toons that have a strong costume part of the concept (particularly Goob and prolly Fever too) won’t be wearing the SG costume unless man-handled into it while being held down by other Handies.

Is there any chance we could work a role play element into the SG costume (and I suppose SG name), which would make it easier for those of us with concept toon to work with it.

E.g. 1 – We are an elite special forces unit gone bad. This would be a nice fit with the costume we chose, though not sure it would fit our name.

E.g. 2 – We are a street gang who leave our trademark muddy handprint on our victims/crime scenes. This would fit our name, but the costume would need to be more street (jeans and teashirt with a big mud coloured handprint on it maybe).

I suppose the trick would be getting a concept that fits both our new costume and our name.

Do Von and Fire already have a concept like this or maybe it could be something we ran as a competition on this blog? “SG Concept Competition” or something.

Hope noone minds me posting this. I try to be helpful around the SG supporting members where I can and helping out on events if I am available, but in other respecs I seems like a bit of a difficult old curmudgeon. Won’t use vent, won’t wear costume, won’t play Hero side – maybe you should kick me and save yourselves from my annoying habits!

  15. Lol Goob, I get where you are coming from. All of my ‘Mimes’ and i now have 5 wear nothign but black and white, and they are still lettting their little eyes adjust to the whole ‘colour’ thing. Personally I didnt like the idea at first, but with no set head piece, you can still look how you like in the head department.

In terms of role play and concept, the roleplay part for me has evolved from the concept element. I made a mime, but happen to be quite vocal, so I am a ‘bad’ mime, hence the villainousness. My cozzies revolve around the concept of the toon generally, with Chililng Thought being the only real exception.

As to the role play element of the SG cozzie, its not mandatory at all, but it does look great when you have a squad of handies all wearing it.

Want a role play element to it? Well you belong to the Dirty Hand Prints. A bunch of filthy, good for nothing, crass and loud villains who want power, lots and lots of power. The SG costume is a way to be recognised as beign part of this malevolent and evil organisation, and can be worn with pride and honour for it marks you out as special, You are a Dirty Hand Print!!!

    Good enough for you?

  16. Let us not forget that we are the Handprints and are both villains and heroes!!!

I think Mime got it right there tho – we are the handprints – and as we all know we are to my knowledge the only union sg community to have 1 sg that is in the top 10 and 1 sg in the top 40 (soon to be top 10 also) – this is because we are active, have plenty of members and a great community.

So the idea behind the cossie is to show some unity to the rest of the players in a kind of bloody hell there they are again out as an sg team that sg looks like they do loads i want to join them or yep i am a handprint and that makes me special (usually in a good way) – similar to how people react to evil but we have the benefit of being able to do that both sides :)

The whole role play thing just does not do it for me i am afraid goob – i always struggle to understand pure roleplayers if i am honest and find that it could be a bit restrictive as in the court of the blood countesses where you have to have your bio and look of the toon fitting the theme.

I think we will have more people objecting to a theme that we will a costume that is pulled out when we are all stood together in public at the bm/we, outside mishes and fighting in public.

Please do not apologise for posting your views at all thos – we are all different after all.

  17. Von – Only talked about the dirties as Goob only plays Vill side.

But the rest of what you said is quite true. We aint really a roleplay SG and dont put any limits on toons, their looks, bios etc (This is all the the Handies Ethos I wrote btw). The SG costume can be seen as a roleplay element if you like, or just a uniform to gain recognition for the SG. No one will force you to wear it though. Maybe just try to incorporate the Dirties into your roleplay.

To me, roleplaying is a lot about fitting what is ingame and fitting your own reality around it. Much easier than trying to get the games reality to fit into yours.

  18. I think it needs to be stressed that no-one is expected to wear the SG costume all of the time, I think those of us that have created it have it in one of our spare slots.

Initially, I was doubtful about an SG cossie too, I was just going to wear it when Von was around and when we were meeting up for ST teams etc. However, I have found that most of my toons are wearing it for the majority of the time. I don’t know what Villains ST night is like, but on Heroes ST night it looks pretty impressive with the whole team kitted out. And as Mime says, we have a free hand with our head and back details.

At some point we will probably be launching a double Hereoes ST team attack on Lusca, we will probably attract a bit of attention 16 of us doing that in costume.

By the way Von: “I think Mime got it right tho” – has Hell frozen over?

  19. Ok, which one of you wiseguys made so it so I am going to have to skate home from the office today?

  20. I’m a role-player. I have been for years. I don’t do as much on CoX because it takes ages to type stuff out, but I did it for a long time and I was good. I still am. http://cougar-ridge-v2.livejournal.com/ is where I currently play.

There was a comment on the entries itself about how the costume wasn’t armour to fit in with how the character of that toon, the origins of the powers, etc. I came up with a paragraph to cover it. The SG costume isn’t mandatory, but we do look bloody good and if the main reason for not having it is because it doesn’t fit your role-play dynamic then, in my opinion (not endorsed by anyone else, or itended to slight anyone’s sensibilities), you ain’t RPing right.

How does membership of the Handies fit in with your RP? Do you acknowledge us at all? How do you fit in to the dynamic? One of the basic-principles of role play is to take the circumstances you are given and adapt to them. I have the backstory as to who my characters are, and in the case of Escalus, Lady and Vienna, they all fit together – including HandPrint membership, as Esc and Lady have joined the Clean Handprint, to try and get close to the Dirties who are the villain counterpart and use that membership to try and bring Vienna back to the light.

Did it start that way? No, but the choice made by me to join the Handprints meant I needed to know why. It depends on how hard you want to work, and in fairness it comes quite easily to me.

  21. I joked before that if a unity costume was good enough for the x-men, it’s good enough for the handies.

I think it shouldn’t restrict your role playing at all, if that’s your thing. Wolverine for example tears his to shreds most of the time…take a casual slant to the costume (if that ’s ok von?). If your character has problems with authority, slot a couple of alternates that suit your mood.
Kids have fun with their school uniforms after all.Decide how your character would react to a suit itself and play it that way. It’s only for special, as my Mum used to say.

  22. 1.5 hours – and I just got the Satan skating home comment – I was thinking who’s Satan? Is he a new Handy?

As for Role-Playing. I never really got into that, I think I lack the imagination for it. I just like playing the game and create characters I enjoy playing.

  23. All my toons have a back story but I’m not really one for RPing, if I end up teaming with RPers I’ll join in but that’s about it. If, in the course of the RP teaming, I’m asked about my affiliation and such, the main story running through my toons involve zidney, Full contact, stormburst, Raucous and K’un Do in one arc, skanner and braze in another, Bobfoc, Hindrance, Blackguard and Swamper have their own back stories but hey, they may merge at some point. :)

  24. Well I certainly don’t wanna cause an argument.

I was hoping that the idea of putting some creativity into our SG concept might be viewed as an opportunity, in a similar way to the costume competition was, but maybe people already have it fixed in their heads, and discussing it here is not needed.

I’ll try to more or less overlook the “you ain’t role playing right” comment from Esc, in the interest of harmony. I’ve been playing RPG for 30 years and have come to the opinion that as soon as someone starts talking about right and wrong ways to roleplay, you might as well close the discussion.

Bottom line is pretty positive – Goobertron is a robot and won’t be wearing the costume (as a character he’s supposed to be an uncontrollable prankster anyway, so non-conformity works), but since it’s not mandatory we’re all happy.

I’ll continue to show SG-spirit in other ways. I’ve never had a single mob kill outside SG mode since I joined, for example!

  25. These games may have an “RP” in their acronym but they are such a diluted far cry from the orginal roleplaying games of pencil and paper that I grew up with.

I don’t really like the thing for so many reasons. The Fab Four and the X-men may dress up together, but I struggle to think of a bunch of super-villians that ever have in the modern comic book mythology, beyond say the Jokers minions in the old 60’s Batman shows. The idea of something with such a HUGE ego as a super-villian being happy to subsume his or her identity to a bunch of other people they’ll happly look down their noses on confuses they hell out of me.

Moreover, it just never will fit near all of my characters, Betty is a great example, just like Goobertron. She’s a near naked dryad, just the odd fig leaf here and there otherwise she’s all Lady Godiva and staying that way.

I could write a paragraph or two on the relative nature of the aesthetic in general, but that doesn’t overly need to be argued anyway. I’m not into green. :P

Last but not least is for me that, what will define us as a collective is what we do, not how we look while we do. We’ll get much better “press” from doing what we allways do, be helpful to one another and to try and maximise enjoyment out of the game for everyone concerned. That word of mouth is worth way more than everyone looking the same.

Ultimately, I’ve not been keen on altering my apperance to suit others in all my life, it gets under my skin where ever and when ever someone challenges that I guess, even in a game :P

Like Goob’ said, if we (the royal kind) can help with something for someone in the Handies, we’ll try our best, not because we’re being advised we should, but because we want to.

  26. The last thing I forgot to add is, that there is allways the possibility it will have the reverse of the desired intention on some people, warped souls like myself.

Rather than seeing a dozen people all looking the same and thinking “Cool, I wan’t to be a part of that”. They might think “Eww, if I join them do I have look like that all the time”. Please remember the relative nature of the aesthetic at this point before you all go nuts at me. :P

I still think we all look great together flaunting our individuality, but blah. :)

  27. I understand where you are coming from Jane. I myself would be hard to describe as ‘conformist’ (long blonde hair since I was 12) and I too had reservations about adding some colour to the my Mime’s. I just think the visual aspect of seeing several people all dress the same is powerful. People go, ‘oo, they must all play together a lot, be active etc’ and for those lookiing to join an active SG, its good advertising. Every time I see EVIL in there sg cozzies it always makes me go ‘Oooo’, and then you see one of EVIL outside of an sg event, and they look totally different.

As to the no villains would ever stoop to being conformist with others, apart from henchmen, are we not all just Von’s henchmen? We do what she commands (well sometimes) and give her more and more power to use as her indomnitable and evil will sees fit. Sounds like we are a bunch of lackeys to an evil mastermind to me. (lol great idea for a Mastermind Von! Make a thugs/ MM, call the Bruiser ‘Fire’ The Enforcers ‘Ivana’ and ‘Novie’ and the thugs whatever you like!)

Anyways, its not mandatory to wear it, so its up to you.

  28. I myself would be hard to describe as ‘conformist’ (long blonde hair since I was 12)

Long lost member of Hansen! Knew it!

  29. Shut it Paddy :P

  30. I think this is being taken a bit too seriously – nobody is trying to make anybody do anything. Some people in the SGs never take part in anything or team up with anyone and that is fine too.

As I’ve said before I had reservations about an SG costume too, but I now love wearing it at SG events. But, each to their own, and let’s not criticise each other either for wearing it or not wearing it, or RPing or not.

As for worrying about whether I conform or don’t conform, I’ve never worried about it, I just do what I feel like.

Long blonde hair then Mime, I bet you’re really bald.

  31. Lol Spif, I just read your reply to the Satan comment, having a slow day yesterday?

I think the above discussion isnt overly serious, we have had more serious ones (ie football hooliganism). The message was clear all along though, the SG cozzie isnt mandatory.

I’ve never worried about conformity or non-conformity either really. I am an individual just like everyone else. And yes my hair is down to my shoulders at the moment, though I think Enkil probs has longer hair than me if I remember his COH faces pic rightly.

  32. Shut it Greg!

I’m too lazy to write out a big long post so I’ll just agree with Spiffer. No one said ye guys had to wear it, and no one is doubting your commitment to the cause. Its cool.

(expect a sweaty punishment gank in Warburg *someday*, as much as we like you insolence will not be tolerated!)

  33. I have a bigger beard though Greg.

  34. Greg? *wonders what novie was drinking last night*

  35. Nah, of course I get that it’s not mandatory. But then we who choose not to wear it feel obiliged to offer up our explanations why when we appear to be black sheep. :P

  36. Oh and how did I mix the Fantastic Four up with the Beatles last night. Suppose Ringo a dead ringer for the Thing though. :S
